Programs

  • Search and Rescue

Ever heard the phrase "Teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life"? Well that is the premise of our Search and Rescue Program.

We physically go out into the forests, parks, and streets of Brevard County and make contact with the homeless veterans that live there. Once we find them, we provide basic necessities such as clothing, outdoor equipment, and food in order to reduce the burdens of homeless life. We then inform them where resources that can assist them further are located such as: emergency shelters, low-income housing organizations, food banks, employment agencies, and VA Claims Service Officers.

Search and Rescue bridges the gap between the two most beneficial events for homeless veterans in Brevard...Cocoa Stand Down in February and Titusville Stand Down in September. Since the veterans do not have electricity or telephones, information is hard to distribute to them. The best way to raise awareness of these events (and others) is through face to face meetings... Search and Rescue is the solution.

Interested in Helping? Go to our Get Involved page and fill out the form. Be sure to include the area you want to assist with in the comments.

  • Isaac Ramos Memorial Stand Down

Conducted annually at DAV Post 109 in
    Titusville.
    Veterans are transported out
of the forests and for one day it is all about them. They have access to medical care, new boots, backpacks, clothes, warm food, showers, haircuts, hygiene items, VA Claims Specialists, Department of Motor Vehicle personnel for ID's and Licenses, free legal advice and much, much more. All of this is provided free of charge and the only prerequisite is to be in need of help.

  • Seasonal Support program was created so that we could conduct seasonal and holiday related morale boosting support, such as bringing veterans into hotels during inclement weather, cooking Thanksgiving Dinner for our Homeless Heroes, or bringing them into hotels for Christmas.

Annual event under NVHS Seasonal Support where veterans are brought out of the cold winter weather and into hotel rooms on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They are provided gift cards, supplies, food and friendship.
